Readers, I need your help!

New design for All Things Bright?

I'm considering changing the design for All Things Bright.

I love the current theme (especially the proliferation of pink!) and I've made some changes recently to make the design simpler and clearer.

Are the changes enough or would you like to see something new?

What do you like to read here?

What kind of content do you want from All Things Bright? What kind of topics do you expect? Should there be more about entrepreneurship? Less? What about ethics, philosophy, studying? Do you like my personal entries?

Please do let me know.

Teasers or full entries?

When you go to the homepage of All Things Bright, at the moment you see five full entries, then excerpts for the next five entries, then a linked list of the next ten entries.

This means that the homepage is really really long and may be intimidating.

Apparently, using excerpts linking to the full entries would improve my front page. But what do you think?

I really like the current theme, but I do agree/think the front page is a bit long. I'd be happy to see a different theme, but only if it helped shorten the page; otherwise, I'd like the current one — although of course the changes you make help too.

I really like the personal entries, especially when they crossover with the entrepreneurship ones; the issues that raises for you, how you deal or plan to deal with them, that kind of thing, are definitely my favourite ones. More of those please!

As for the length of the homepage, it seems to me that only complete newcomers to your blog would need that many entries on the front page, so how about have a weeks' worth of posts in full, then a week of excerpts, and then however many links to older posts you want (maybe fill out a month in total, with the two weeks of other posts)? These numbers are just random ones of course; no other reason for them.

Ian, thank you so much for your feedback. Very welcome and helpful as always.

I really like the current theme too – mostly the pink, as I keep saying :)

I've implemented the design changes you suggested and I think it looks much better. The front page is much more digestible now that it's shorter. I've had a suggestion to include images too, and I think that might be a good idea because it would break up the masses of text that still dominates the page.

As for content, I read so much about how personal sites are boring, unread, pointless etc. that I worry about having too many personal entries. However, I think the point is that many personal sites just have boring entries, so if I'm worrying about making mine interesting and always making my entries reader-focused in some way then I think it's very possible for me to still have a lot of personal content here.

I, too, like my 'personal crossed with entrepreneurship' entries; they're fun to write and I like how they serve a dual purpose – sharing interesting (I hope!) information about myself and discussing entrepreneurship and related subjects. Given that there's at least one vote for more of those, that's simple enough. You may have noticed that I've been writing lots of these recently.

Thanks again for your feedback, I'm posting today (again!) on the topic of 'more feedback please!' and will be drawing on some of what you've said in that entry too.

    Kx
