The true story of an entrepreneur (autobiography)
Once upon a time, there was a young girl who dreamed of being a writer. She desperately and passionately wanted to write. She wrote tonnes of stories, filling lever arch folders with the contents of her imagination. She rarely finished any of them because she liked creating new ones too much.
As she grew older she developed a keen interest in Philosophy, especially in Philosophy of Religion. She loved studying people and learning about belief systems, what made each different and what similarities they shared. She wanted to understand people, get to know them better and develop her interactions & relationships with them.
She decided she wanted to be a modern day Socrates, loafing & intellectualising; except she knew no one would pay for her to read & lecture at will & without structure.
Around this time, she fell deeply in love with the Internet. So much did she love it, that she taught herself how to write in its languages so she could create more content for the World Wide Web. She quickly metamorphosed in to a Web designer and decided that that was what she wanted to do as her career.
Having developed many websites from scratch, it slowly dawned on her that she could use the Internet to research & discuss ideas in a way that was very similar to being a modern day Socrates. Nor did she need to limit her ideas to the realm of Philosophy of Religion, rather she was free to read & write about whatever was most interesting to her at the time.
She created All Things Bright and saw that it was good because it was centred in the very heart of her passions. She knew it would never get old or tiresome, because it would always be about whatever she wanted. She kept it structured, without it being a chore, by creating Categories as and when she became interested in a new area, for example, Pledges.
Of course, she still hadn’t worked out exactly how people would pay her for doing this yet. But that was okay, because she wasn’t going to put all her eggs in one basket. Instead, she was an empire-building entrepreneur, with a penchant for some social entrepreneurship too. This meant she could & would create new businesses as and when she thought of brilliant ideas, ensuring she was helping people too, along the way.
For her first real business, she chose to do something that would help people to help other people whilst shopping for beautiful jewellery: She created EthicalBeads.org to give people information about where, how & why to buy ethical beads & jewellery and started building EthicalBeads.com to make it even easier for people to buy ethical beads & jewellery, as well as enabling people to buy ethical jewellery designed & handcrafted by her. She was quietly confidant about Ethical Beads being a success because she was very passionate about it and she already had experience running her old hobby business, where she had sold her handcrafted jewellery.
She had managed to perfectly unite her past dreams of being a writer, intellectual & web designer in to a new reality in which she was a successful entrepreneur. Consequently, she lived happily ever after, being creative, passionate & intelligent.
In the future, she would be very rich too… but that’s another story.
Like Ben Bleikamp, “I like to think that I’m at the beginning of where I want to end up… I know that I can and will have much more success.”
